Materials

450mm x 450mm sheet of desired material i used a 15mm thick laminated MDF material. this gives enough depth to recess the clock in the back. If you use thin material (5mm) you probably would not need to recess the clock.

Tools

Shaper origin,

5mm spiral up-cut bit.

Shaper tape.

Instructions

Make sure you use plenty of double sided tape as there are lots of internal parts. Start with the clock centre hole, the mechanisms generally available on Amazon have an 8mm diameter shaft which is around 7mm long. The clock mechanism may need recessing in the rear depending on the thickness of the material. My technique for this was as follows. 1) Cut out the whole clock from the front side including the clock 8mm centre hole. 2) Turn the clock over so that the back is upper most. Cover the area around the centre hole with masking tape. 3) Insert the clock mechanism in the hole from the back side and position it squarely with the design. 4) Carefully draw around the mechanism. 5) Measure that box. mine was 55mm square but i addexd 3mm on to ensure the hanging mechanism was accounted for and for a bit of wiggle room. 6) Drew up that 58mm box in shaper and aligned it over the box i drew in step 4. 7) Cut that shape out to the correct depth dependent on clock mechanism and material thickness. 8) Dropped the clock in and tightened up the nut on the front and added the pointers. I'm sure there is a better way to do this and if i was making them commercially i would probably add the 58mm box to the original pattern and remember to only cut that one out from the rear side.
