I was aiming for an easy flexible way to load our bikes in the short bed of my truck. I adapted this design from the many found on the internet, there is even one here on the Shaper Hub by DennisLa-Design. I wanted mine to be stable on the ground and also made to use the 20mm plywood I had salvaged from shipping crates. It’s simple and quick to make. It can be flat packed and can be used anywhere. For bikes with tires 26”~27.5” high and approx 2” wide

Instructions

I used a hybrid process for this project. I started by cutting the shapes included in the two files with the SO at 6mm deep. The two sides are nested on one file so you can cut them together from the bigger plywood piece. The front and back are also nested to be cut out of the smaller plywood piece. Then it’s off to the band saw or you can also use a jigsaw to rough cut all the pieces. Next I used a flush trimming router bit to bring the pieces to the intended shape that was cut by the SO. This is a good time to go back to the bandsaw or jigsaw to square off the round inner corners of the notches. Next, it’s back to router to round all the edges using a roundover bit. ⚠️ Here I make sure not do do the notches. Also I don’t do the bottom sides of the front and rear pieces. Those I take to the table saw and cut a 30deg angle for the bottom sides so that they sit flush on the floor. I then sanded the faces smooth taking care that the pieces (notches) mesh nicely together. As an option, you can cut round holes on the sides of the notches as in the photos. You can also cut them using the SO off course. These help tie the bike wheels to the stand as extra security. I used Nitize 18” gear ties. Last step, I applied several coats of Polycrylic for protection and durability. If you have any questions feel free to drop me a line.
