The 1687 original version of the solitaire board. Based on the earliest image of a peg solitaire board (see the picture), the original game used 36 pegs instead of the modern game's 32. This board is made of Osage Orange and 1/2" brass balls.

Materials

225mm or 9" square piece of wood.

36 marbles/ball bearings (I used 1/2" brass balls)

Tools

Shaper Origin

Straight bit of your choice

1/2" coving bit

Instructions

Cut the outer shape with any straight bit you prefer and everything else with a 1/2" coving bit. I set the depth for all the dimples and the gutter at 5.5mm, just less than half the height of the balls I wanted to use, so they seat well but are still easy to pick up.
