Materials

1/2 inch (12.7mm) sheet or appropriate material (MDF, hardwood, or plywood. polycarbonate sheet would be perfect, and thinner pieces could possibly be layered with epoxy to get required thickness or veneered to a quarter inch thick piece of MDF).

Tools

Shaper origin, acceptable bit for material type and thickness,

Instructions

The stock throat plate measures 95mm wide by 135mm long and is 11.25mm thick however it has 4 set screws on the bottom to make minor adjustments, the combined thickness of the plate and set screws measure precisely 12.7mm (1/2 inch). The radius of the rounded ends is ~47.1mm. The insert has a 25mm finger hole which matches up with the placement of the stock fingerhole. I did not include a cutout for the blade so you can make a precise cut using your blade. To make the precise cut I lowered my blade all the way, removed the stock throatplate, put in the new insert, placed my fence over the finger hole (ensure your blade does not hit your fence on the initial cut by not putting any part of your fence past the centerline of the throatplate), and locked down my fence to hold the throat insert in place. I turned on the saw and slowly rose the blade to the desired height. You can extend the cut to fit your riving knife if desired.
