Instructions

Note - if you don't have a cutter that will reach a depth of 1.5", most of this can still be built using a hybrid workflow where you cut partially through your pieces and then finish the cut with a bandsaw/jig saw and a router with a flush cut bearing bit. Drilling the holes through the vise can be done with a drill press or hand drill and a 3/4" forstner bit Panel Glue Up - glue up the top pieces using your preferred method. Legs - Using pieces cut to 19" x 4.75", cut the rounded corner profile on one end of the leg using either svg in the Moxon Rounded Corner Template file. Both legs are identical and you can use either image depending on the way your pieces are secured. Attaching Legs To The Top - Cut two dadoes in the bottom of the panel for the legs to nest in using the Moxon Vise Leg Dadoes file. Cut these dadoes to 1/4" deep and sneak up on the width while test fitting your legs to make sure you get a tight fit. Glue the legs into the dadoes while making sure the legs are flush with one end of the panel for the vise back jaw to attach to. Vise Back Jaw - Using a piece cut to 27" x 6", cut the two holes all the way through the material with the Moxon Vise Back Screw Holes file and then cut the clamp downs using the Moxon Rounded Corner Template file. Using one of the nuts from the vise kit, mark an area where the nuts will sit when they are attached to the lead screw on inside of the back jaw. Use a chisel to cut a hole for the nuts to sit in so that it's flush or below the surface of the wood. This will allow the front jaw to close against the back jaw fully. Vise Front Jaw - Using a piece cut to 21" x 6", cut the two holes all the way through the material with the Moxon Vise Front Screw Holes file. The wider holes on the front jaw will help prevent the vise from binding as it moves forwards and backwards. Attaching The Vise - glue the back of the vise back jaw to the top/leg assembly, making sure the top is as flush with the top of the back vise jaw as possible. Install your vise hardware as per the instructions, once everything is assembled you can put some shaper tape on the top to cut out the dog holes on the bench and front jaw of the vise.
