Instructions

Step 1 – Cut Part A Pocket cut the interior using 1/8” cutter that’s ½ the distance of your stock. Interior cut the interior using 1/8” cutter with -0.03 offset to allow room for pivot. Helix cut all the dowel holes using ¼” cutter all the way through your stock. Check fit of dowel and cut again with an offset if necessary. You want some minor room for glue. Outside roughing pass using ¼” cutter with .02 offset. Outside finishing pass using ¼” cutter with 0 offset. Step 2 – Cut Part B Engrave shape in center with an engraving cutter. (Note: if you don’t want the center engraving, you wouldn’t have to helix the holes in Steps 2 and 3 all the way through the stock. You can hide them by only going halfway through your stock.) Helix cut all the dowel holes using ¼” cutter all the way through your stock. Check fit of dowel and cut again with an offset if necessary. You want some minor room for glue. Outside roughing pass using ¼” cutter with .02 offset. Outside finishing pass using ¼” cutter with 0 offset. Step 3 – Cut Part C Helix cut all the dowel holes using ¼” cutter all the way through your stock. Check fit of dowel and cut again with a small negative offset if necessary (-0.006 was a good fit). You want some minor room for glue. Outside roughing pass using ¼” cutter with .02 offset. Outside finishing pass using ¼” cutter with 0 offset. Step 4 – Cut Dowel Cut approximately ½” long piece of dowel for Part A’s to center pivot. Cut (8) 1” long pieces of dowel for assembly. Step 5 – Assemble Join both Part A parts using the short piece of dowel. It needs to pivot so don’t glue this part. The dowel should not extend beyond either side of Part A. Join all parts using the longer dowels. Apply glue on inside faces and in dowel holes. Leave dowel long on both ends. Once glue dries, use flush cut saw to trim off excess dowel. Step 6 – Finish Sand and apply heat resistant finish.
