This is for a 15”x15” square chessboard. The file posted on here previously was a bit large for what I needed so I wanted to make one for a smaller square board. It was made with 6/4 maple for the board and 1/4” bocote for the inlayed squares(6/4 walnut and 1/4” olive wood in the title picture).I used the 1/8” shaper bit to cut everything.

Mdf jig for spoil board
Double sided tape
I took a sheet of 3/4” mdf and cut out a 15”x15” square for the board to sit in while I cut the pockets out of it. I put adjustable feet in the mdf so that I could raise and lower it to the thickness of my material. I also cut out an area for the thin stock to sit in while I cut out the inlays. I used double stick tape to stick down the thin stock and hold the inlays in place. If using an 1/8” bit you should take multiple shallow passes to cut the pockets and the inlays. 1/8” plunge at a time. I used a 7/8” bottom cleaning bit to hog out the bulk of the pockets after cutting the outline first. Sneak up on the fit using slight offsets until you get a perfect snug fit.
