- Wood board ~2.75 in wide, ~0.4 in thick (I used a piece of maple offcut)
- Dowel (0.25 in)
- Butcher's twine
- Shaper Origin with 1/8 in bit
- Something to round the edges (ex: sandpaper, router, Dremel)
General Notes: You can either drill the hole for the dowel before or after cutting with Origin. When teething, babies sometimes like a softer to chew on. If you are intimidated by knotting the tail, I have also included a file with the tail attached. Instructions: 1. Cut the first few passes with a 0.01 in offset. Cut the final pass without an offset to get a smooth edge. 2. Smooth over edges with a manual sanding, a router, or Dremel. I used a Dremel. 3. If not pre-drilled, drill holes for dowel. Check the fit. You may need to sand the dowel to get free movement. 4. Finish if desired. If toy is expected to be chewed on, be careful with the finish choice. I either leave it unfinished or use 1:3 Beeswax:Mineral Oil 5. For the knotted tail, I used butcher's twine (again, presumably food safe). Cut four sections and loop through the fish. Tie two braids of 20 square knots each. Bend the two braids inward and attach back to the fish to create the tail. 6. Insert dowel through both Fish, and glue in place. Saw off excess dowel. Enjoy!
