2 Simple Box N°025™ and 2 Simple Box N°6-40™ The project was originally made for my students to learn about the Shaper Origin, the Workstation accuracy and tolerances. I reworked the original Metric version for use with Tape Board™ to a SAE and Metric version for the Shaper Workstation. Easy enough for a beginner and challenging for the expert user. You can use it as a box for spares in the bottom of your Shaper Origin Systainer. Updated 220522

SAE version (inch, foot)

1/4” hardwood or plywood: 14” x 4” (2 pieces)

Metric version (mm):

6 mm hardwood or plywood: 360x96 mm (2 pieces)

It is very important for the success of the project that you know the exact thickness of the board used!

Tools

SAE version (inch, foot)

1/8” up-cutter

90° 1/2” cutter (CMT 665.201.11 or 815.127.11)

Metric version (mm):

2 Simple Box N°025™ and 2 Simple Box N°6-40™ https://community.shapertools.com/t/info-about-2-simple-box/9251 220522 Updated SVG to V2 - adapted files after testing 220527 Updated SVG to V3 - minor corrections SAE version (inch, foot) The design is a simple box that can be build into 2 different variations depending on how you fit the the bottom and the lid. The box size is 7” x 3.5” x 1.75”. Only special part needed for this project is the 90° cutter. How to make the 2 Simple Box 025™ First the Top and Bottom. Position the hardwood/plywood board on the Workstation and use double-sided tape to hold it in place. Set-up the Shaper Workstation as it should: scan workplace, grid your wood bottom and left side. Import 2SB 025 Top and Bottom SVG Use 1/8” cutter bit: First cut the groove with outside cut to a depth of 1/8” (2 x 1/16”) and the finger ‘hole’. You can add -0.005” offset for a better fit. Next the outside with outside cut to a depth of 1/4” (2 x 1/8”) Remove all the cut parts Next The Sides: Position the hardwood/plywood board on the Workstation with double-sided tape to hold it in place. You need the tape to hold the parts for the last cuts. Make sure to have tape in the top left corner for the small lid slider. Remove the old SVG file and routing history. If needed re-grid on the new board. Import the 2SB 025 Sides 2 up SVG file and position @ 0 x 0 (grid bottom left) Use 1/8” cutter for the majority of the cuts. First the four horizontal grooves are cut across to 1/8” depth. You can go a little deeper (0.005") if you want the lid to slide loosely. Check the width of the groove with the lid and bottom for fitting. If needed add 0.005" offset for a better fit. Then the outside, only the horizontal cuts, are cut to full depth 1/4” in 1/8” increments as outside cuts Next use a 90° cutter set to 1/4” depth (2 x 1/8” cuts) for online cut: one horizontal line and then the vertical lines. This is very critical for the whole box. Be sure not to cut deeper then the thickness of the board. Done. Remove all the cut parts (and the old tape) Now all the parts are cut and the box can be assembled to the version you like. (Flip bottom and and top 180° for variation) Assemble ("dry-fit") the box and make small adjustments, if needed, to get a perfect fit. Glue and clamp the box. Hint: use the lid partially in place as a spacer while glueing. Metric version (mm) The design is a simple box that can be build into 2 different variations depending on how you fit the the bottom and the lid. The box in the Metric version is 180x90x40 mm. Only special part needed for this project is the 90° cutter. How to make the 2 Simple Box N°6-40™ First the Top and Bottom. Position the hardwood/plywood board on the Workstation and use double-sided tape to hold it in place. Set-up the Shaper Workstation as it should: scan workplace, grid your wood bottom and left side. Import 2SB 40 Top and Bottom SVG Use 3 mm cutter bit: First cut the groove with outside cut to a depth of 3 mm (2 x 1,5mm) and the finger ‘hole’. You can add -0.1 mm offset (or more) for a better fit. Next the outside with outside cut to a depth of 6 mm (2 x 3 mm). Remove all the cut parts The Sides: Position the hardwood/plywood board on the Workstation with double-sided tape to hold it in place. You need the tape to hold the parts for the last cuts.
