Materials

Made with 1/2" side stock - however setting the cut depth can accommodate other thicknesses. There are two end files - one for 1/2" stock and the other for 3/4" stock. These files are 4" wide, but can be adjusted for other widths in 1/2" increments. The width of the stock must precisely match the design.

Instructions

> The thickness of the sides matches by the depth of cut on both pieces. > The end pieces have the pins, the side pieces have the socket holes > Pay attention to the grid reference point location for each piece. > When probing to establish the location of the end pieces, the origin is at the lower left corner. For the end pieces, cut the inside element to depth in 1/8" steps, then trim the pins round. > The 3/4" thick end piece includes an additional inside cut to clean out the bottom edge of the joint. > When probing to establish the location of the side pieces, the origin is at the upper left corner. For the side pieces, cut the scalloped edge to depth in 1/8" steps, then cut the holes using a Helix operation. On the final pass, go about 0.020" deeper to make sure the cut goes through the stock. > Cut end piece(s) first, then after cutting each side piece, check the fit and trim a few thousandths off the profile to get the proper fit. Enlarging the holes by 0.005" usually allows the joint to slip together very snugly. You may want to allow more clearance for gluing the joint together. > The 1/2" end file adds 1/4" (2 joints) to the overall side length of the assembled project. > The 3/4" end file adds 1/2" (2 joints) to the overall side length of the assembled project. The pins in this joint are 1/2" apart. The template file contains SVG elements - left, center and right. With an appropriate drawing program, you can snap the pieces together to create any size joint - in 1/2" increments.
