Materials

1/8" Masonite

3/8" MDF

Cut pieces oversize and then cut to desired size after the trays are glued together

Box Joint - 11" x 11"

Dovetails - 11" x 8"

Letter - 10" x 9.5"

Vertical Letter - 10" x 4"

Segmented - 9" x 6"

Slot Mortise - 9" x 7"

Specialty - 8.5" x 9.5"

Shaper Origin

1/8" downcut spiral bit

1/4" upcut spiral bit

2 x 5/32" drill bits to align the top and bottom layers while gluing

Instructions

I used 1/8" masonite with a 1/8" downcut bit for the top layer of each tray. Set the cut depth slightly more than 1/8" The bottom layer is made from 3/8" MDF but thicker material could also be used. I routed the openings to 1/4" deep using a 1/4" bit. The alignment holes between the top and bottom layer should be routed with a 1/8" bit to the full depth of the MDF. Once both boards have been machined, glue them together using two 5/32" drill bits to keep the boards aligned. After the glue dries, the trays can be cut to finished size at the tablesaw
