I wanted to wear a bolo tie to a recent wedding, but couldn't find one in San Francisco - so I made my own. Use these inlay files to make your own bolo tie, or scale them to create an inlaid flower in any project.

Instructions

I used ~0.1" thick maple for my inlay and ~0.25" thick wenge for the bolo, although the exact thicknesses and species of wood are not important. Sand shading after cutting the inlay parts ended as a happy accident - the hot shading shrunk the inlay parts enough to leave gaps, which I was able to fill with dark sawdust to increase the contrast between petals. To avoid shrinkage, shade your inlay parts before cutting with Origin. You can scale this design on Origin to create not just a bolo, but a flower inlay of any size. I eased the front face of the bolo with a file, smoothed it with sandpaper, and finished with Emmet's "Good Stuff". To find bolo tie parts online, search for "Bennett Clasps" and "4mm braided leather cord". Follow along on Shaper Sessions to learn more about inlay: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qnTla2eVxCo
