I've recently started building guitars using the shaper origin for all of my templates / jigs. Quickly I started running out of places to put the newly built ones, so I thought I'd build off of some of the creative ideas online for a simple floor style wooden guitar stand. This MDF version was my test, but I was very pleased with it. All of you woodworkers can imagine a prettier version of this with some nice Claro walnut or Curly Maple etc. :)

Instructions

1) I would recommend cutting the crossmember first, and taking care of the tenons. This will allow you to cut your side pieces, and adjust your negative offset for a perfect fit on them. I used a 5"H x 9 1/4" Longpoint to Longpoint crossmember. The angle for each side is 17.5... easily cut on the compound miter saw. Once the angles were cut, I used the Shaper angle stop with the workstation in the vertical format, clamped the crossmember in place, and set a grid off of the long point. This allowed me to simply flip the piece over and do the second side with no other adjustments. 2) Cut the two side pieces. If you do 'through tenons' like I have here, left and right side is unimportant... as both could be used. I ended up using a .006 negative offset, for a perfect fit. 3) GLUE UP. Since the sides are laid out for a 17.5 degree angle, I cut 4 little 'opposite' 17.5 degree blocks, and used the painters tape with CA glue trick to temporarily give myself a flat clamping surface. (See image) 4) Sand and finish accordingly. It's that easy Add some sort of weather stripping, or cushioning to the bottom if you're concerned about the guitar sitting directly on the wood. Hope you enjoy it!!
