I wanted a 5 tier freestanding shelving unit that has an organic look using cantilevered supports with curvilinear shelves. Also, I decided to embellish 3 of the shelves with an inlay.

Materials

8/4 and 4/4 walnut, 1/2 inch Baltic birch plywood, chechin, purpleheart, padauk.

Tools

Shaper Origin, track saw, router, sanders, domino, table saw

Instructions

The cantilevered supports are all traditional woodworking but I wanted the shelves to have a non symmetric, curvilinear look to them with cutouts for the supports and pegs so everything would slide into place easily. The four upper shelves are the same dimensions but the lowest shelf extends 2 inches forward so I needed two separate svg files for the shelves. I could have used one of the upper shelves as a pattern for cutting the other 3 but the SO is so fast and easy that I just used it instead. The inlays are just to add interest and panache.
