In the 3 kings play of the Waldorf school, Melchior, the red king, in the opening scene asks his servant to bring him the instrument to measure the position of the newly appeared star. This star later directs the 3 kings and their caravans to Bethlehem. For this instrument I made something that from a distance resembles a sextant.

Materials

I used a piece of 9mm thick oak, 160 x 380 mm. For the strenght the direction of the gains is relevant.

1 piece of copper pipe is used for the telescope

2 bolts M5 to fix the telescope in place

1 Book screws 5mm x 20mm

Tools

- Shaper Origin with 4x15mm router bit

- Shaper Workstation

- Double sided tape

- Mirka sander and sanding paper

- Wood glue

- 4 mm drill to drill holes in the copper pipe

- M5 threat cutter

- Mafell KF 1000 edge router

- R=2mm corner rounding router bit

Instructions

I used an offset of 0 mm for the rounded dovetail like joints. I used AutoPass for all cuttings The 160x380 piece of wood is larger than the horizontal mounting plate of the Workstation, so start with cutting the parts which are furdest away from the Workstation. Just a very little sanding will do to be able to get the pieces together, with a slight tapping.
