Shadowboard for electrical hand tools, #2 Created by DatEi — To improve the organization of my tools in my small workshop, I've bought a tool trolley from the german company BGS. The type of the trolley is 4103, a model with 11 drawers. The size of the drawers is 569 mm * 470 mm. Ten of the drawers have a height of 54 mm, the 11th of 170 mm. I plan to produce shadowboards for all the shallow drawers by shaping the corresponding shape of the tools in 30 mm two-colored PE rigid foam inlays. Here I show you my second shadowboard for electrical hand tools.

30 mm PE rigid foam Shaper tape
Shaper Origin self made jig for the foam inlays 8 mm router bit
The first step is to make a jig for the foam inlays in the size you need for your drawers. The height of the jig should be the same as of your foam inlays. You can shape the cutout with the Shaper Origin. I've added rounded cutouts in the corners, so you can easily insert and remove the foam in and out, and additionally create the grid for the Origin by probing the workpiece edges. In my case I've used a 8 mm spiral router bit with two positive and two negative flutes at the speed of 5. I've avoided to cut deeper than 4-5 mm in one step. For longer cutting sessions I also recommend to clean the bit from time to time. This shadowboard contains the follwing electrical hand tools (from left to right): left section, upper row: - Knipex 22 05 160 Round Nose Pliers - Knipex 30 35 160 Long Nose Pliers left section, lower row: - Knipex 26 16 200 Snipe Nose Side Cutting Pliers (Stork Beak Pliers) - Knipex 02 06 180 High Leverage Combination Pliers - Knipex 26 26 200 Snipe Nose Side Cutting Pliers (Stork Beak Pliers) mid section: - 14 Wera VDE interchangeable blades with reduced shaft diameter, 154 mm blade length - 2 Wera 817 VDE Kraftform blade-holding handles - Wera 247 Single-pole voltage tester right section, upper row: - Knipex 73 06 160 X-Cut Compact Diagonal Cutter - Knipex 78 61 125 Electronic Super Knips right section, lower row: - Weidmüller KT 8 - Weidmüller KT 12
