To improve the organization of my tools in my small workshop, I've bought a tool trolley from the german company BGS. The type of the trolley is 4103, a model with 11 drawers. The size of the drawers is 569 mm * 470 mm. Ten of the drawers have a height of 54 mm, the 11th of 170 mm. I plan to produce shadowboards for all the shallow drawers by shaping the corresponding shape of the tools in 30 mm two-colored PE rigid foam inlays. Here I show you my first shadowboard for electrical hand tools.

8 mm router bit

Instructions

The first step is to make a jig for the foam inlays in the size you need for your drawers. The height of the jig should be the same as of your foam inlays. You can shape the cutout with the Shaper Origin. I've added rounded cutouts in the corners, so you can easily insert and remove the foam in and out, and additionally create the grid for the Origin by probing the workpiece edges. In my case I've used a 8 mm spiral router bit with two positive and two negative flutes at the speed of 5. I've avoided to cut deeper than 4-5 mm in one step. For longer cutting sessions I also recommend to clean the bit from time to time. This shadowboard contains the follwing electrical hand tools (from left to right): upper row: - No-name rotary coax stripping tool (might be of no use for you) - Knipex 16 60 05 Stripping Tool for coax cables - Knipex 16 60 06 Wire Stripping Tool for coax and data cable - Knipex 97 51 10 Crimping Pliers for Western plugs RJ 11/12/45 - Krone LSA-Plus Punch Down Tool with Sensor - Rennsteig Rennsteig Notching pliers 20 (503 001 3), right corner, upper row (newly added to updated version) - Rennsteig Rennsteig Notching pliers 16 (503 002 3), right corner, lower row (newly added to updated version) lower row: - Knipex 97 33 01 MultiCrimp Lever Action Crimping Pliers - changer magazine for Knipex 97 33 01 MultiCrimp Lever Action Crimping Pliers - Knipex 97 53 18 Twistor16 Self-Adjusting Crimping Pliers for wire ferrules with rotatable die head - Knipex 16 95 01 ErgoStrip Universal Stripping Tool - Weidmüller Stripax - Knipex 16 20 165 Dismantling Tool with scalpel blade
