This box is based on a build by Neil Paskin at paskmakes.com. I left the tenons a little proud (1/8") to give it a little more contrast.

Wood with contrasting colors works well to show off the joinery.
This is a pretty straight forward project. If you are careful to anchor both files at the center of your material, your mortises and tenons will line up without any problems, regardless of how wide you cut your pieces. I made mine at 3.5". After the box is assembled I used SO to cut a 1/4" rabbit to recess the lid, leaving the lid about 1/8" proud for some contrast. The lid corners are rounded to a 1/8" radius. I also used SO to create a 1/16" rabbit around the recessed pocket, just for aesthetics. I cut a small finger hole in the back of the box to remove the lid, with a corresponding finger catch on the underside of the lid to aid in lifting the lid. You can see the small indentation in the lid in the second photo. Other than cutting the material to length and width everything else can be done with your SO! Good luck!
