A mid-century modern inspired magazine rack with two compartments. Visible thru-tenon joinery and leather interlock hardware. Small top shelf to rest a magazine or book. Carrying handle for easy relocation. Tapered sides match natural angle of the hanging fabric. Fabric is easily removable for cleaning or style updates.

(1x) 8" x 7' hardwood board, 3/4" thick

(1x) leather hide, 1mm thick, 17" x 60", laser cut

(6x) brass pins, 1/4" diameter, 75 mm long, rounded ends, polished [McMASTER 8953K124]

(6x) #8-32 threaded inserts, brass, 3/8" long, hardwood [McMASTER 90016A009]

(6x) #8-32 washers, brass, 0.437" OD [McMASTER 92916A340]

(6x) #8-32 machine screws, button head, slot drive, 7/8" long, brass [McMASTER 92453A198]

(1x) spool of wax thread for leather stitching

Instructions

Wood - All wooden part profiles and most features cut from the 8" wide hardwood board - end frames assembled with 6mm x 19mm loose tenon at each corner (see wireframe image) - edge rounds completed using handheld trim router on loose parts - all wood parts sanded to 320 grit and finished with wipe-on polyurethane Brass Hardware - dowel pins cut down from brass rod, ends ground, polished on buffing wheel - threaded inserts underneath top shelf allow removal and re-install of fabric without damaging wood Leather - laser cut, including stitching holes - loops at each end are sewn, fed through the wood slots, and then the pin is inserted to lock - leather is clamped between top shelf and a lower clamping board using brass screws
