Instructions

This is a relatively easy project to create Using left over cut off wood, you can make box of about any size Dovetail Box Lid Cut: Tape lid (upside down) to adjustable shelf on Workstation Scan then Grid the top with grid spacing = .25” On-tool design Rectangle: Width = width of top +1” (to extend path beyond edges of piece being cut Height = Height of finished box minus 0.5” Place rectangle with lower left corner @ X=0.25” and Y =0.5” Cut using dovetail bit (after Z-touch) Depth-thickness of top Outside cut Offset=0 Bit diameter = width at base of dovetail bit – tip to tip – measure with Caliper Cut lid along rectangle edges – do not retract bit while it is over piece being cut The wide edge or the piece that results = X (will use when cutting base groove) Base interior cut: Tape the bottom of the box to adjustable shelf on Workstation Adjust shelf height to match top of piece with Workstation surface Scan (Do not need to Grid) On-tool design Rectangle: Width = Exterior width less 0.7” Height = Exterior height less 0.7” Visually place rectangle centered on base Cut using ¼” bit (Change bit then Z-touch) Cut (Inside) in ¼” depth passes to desired depth (leave ¼” bottom thickness) Base Dovetail Cut: Change bit to dovetail Bit size = base as measured previously Z-touch On-tool design rectangle with Width = width of finished box + 1” (to extend beyond the edges of the box for retracting dovetail bit) Height = X (wide edge of lid from above) Depth = thickness of Lid Inside cut Offset 0” initially then negative offset to sneak up on proper fit Cut edges without retracting bit until no longer over piece being cut Tabs / Edges of the base ends remain – cut using pocket cut Adjust fit by checking with top piece and gradually shrinking offset (-0.001” -> -0.002” -> -0.003” – etc) Approach initial boxes as a learning experience – gets MUCH easier with practice Can shape / inlay / carve / paint / finish in many different ways Link to additional photos: https://photos.app.goo.gl/d4LDMJhsvpRb1yT56
