Kids Wooden Katana Created by Philip7 — This is a kids version of a katana that I made with my kids. It is a fun and easy project for the family. NOTE: In the picture the hilt is going the wrong direction. The material size I listed will allow you to rotate it 90 degrees. This will make it not break as easily. Of course, if you are using plywood, it doesn't matter. Hope you and your kids enjoy.

40" x 5 1/2" x 1/2" poplar if wanting to paint but really any wood will do. You could also do this with plywood.
Shaper Origin Glue Clamps Sand Paper 1/8" brass pin 1/8" drill bit drill
I cut two sides of the sword, which are mirror images of each other allowing us to create the design on the side for both sides. The hilt is one piece with the mortise that will slip over the sword when the two piece are glued together. This takes a little bit of careful milling to get a good fit.
