Cut the handle first and then the body so you can test fit the handle. If you are using the workstation, make sure you orient the cutting board body file so that the handle can be inserted to be test fitted without interference from the workstation. If you are gluing up the body of the cutting board, it is too big to fit in many benchtop surface planers. I did mine in two halves, planed each half and then made a final glue-up of the body with only one seam.
