A decorative press to make beautiful holiday cookies.

Materials

- 3/4" Cherry hardwood (could be any thickness really)

- 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" x 6" Maple Hardwood (Optional for handle)

-Scrap material at the same thickness as wood for cookie press.

Tools

- Shaper Origin

- 1/4" Cutter

- 1/8" Cutter

- 1/16" cutter

- Engraving bit

- Lathe (Optional for turning handle)

Instructions

Cookie Press 1. Start with an 1/8" cutter and rough out all the internal shapes down to an 1/8" depth. 2. Switch to the 1/16" cutter and follow the same paths for sharper details. Same Depth. 3. Switch to the engraving bit and set depth to 1/16". Follow the same paths to add an internal chamfer to the design. 4. Set offset to 0.01" and add a chamfer to the outer circle of the design at 1/16" depth. 5. Switch to the 1/4" cutter and cut all the way through the outer circle using appropriate depth passes and a finish pass. Handle (optional) 1. Mount the 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" x 6" Maple block into a your lather. 2. Turn desired handle shape with a tenon at the bottom to attach to the cookie press. 3. One a piece of scrap wood that is the same thickness as your cookie press, set a 1/2" grid. 4. Using calipers, measure the exact diameter of your cookie press. 5. Using on-tool CAD, create a circle with that same diameter and place it using the center anchor point. 6. Cut out the inside of the circle. Use offsets to get a snug fit for you cookie press. 7. Add a little double-sided tape, just to be safe, and place the cookie press into the hole with the back facing up. 8. Using calipers, measure the exact diameter of the tenon on your handle. 9. Using on-tool CAD, create a circle with that same diameter and place it using the center anchor point in the center of your previous circle. 10. Cut inside of circle to the depth necessary to fit the tenon on your handle (Test fit as you go). 11. Add a little wood glue or epoxy and press the two pieces together. Let dry. 12. Add a food-safe finish or butcher block oil and enjoy a fun cookie making experience!
