You can use this file to create a template to use with a router to create the hole pattern for the game of Marbles and Jokers. This allows you to make your game board out of you desired material and apply the hole pattern easily.

Materials

This is what I like to use for my templates

1/2" plywood or mdf

Size of the finished template is 22"x22" so start with a larger piece of material.

Tools

For template: Shaper Origin

1/4" spiral bit of your choice

To use template: Plunge router with bushing attachment, 1/2" round nose bit, flush trim bit

Instructions

The Template: The process to cut out the template is pretty straight forward. After you have set up your workspace start with the holes. They cut easily with helix mode and cut them all the way through you material. **You should offset the size of the holes on tool to match the size of your particular bushing that you are using with your router. After all the holes are completed move on to the exterior cut and cut out the profile of the template. You are now done with the template and ready to use it to create your Marbles and Jokers game board. Using the template: Once you have chosen the type of game board you want (solid wood, plywood, mdf) you can use double sided tape to attach the template to it and proceed. I prefer to use a jig saw to trim the outside profile close to the template to make the flush trimming go smoother. After flush trimming the profile I move on to the holes with a plunge router with a 1/2" round nose bit and a bushing setup to help align the bit in the template holes. (Depth of the bit was set using the template and a scrap piece to find a good depth) After all the holes are done you can remove the template and route the upper and lower edges of the boards profile to your liking . I prefer a round over on the top and chamfer on the bottom to help make the board easier to pickup. At this point you can finish the board as you see fit. Just have fun with it. I usually stain my boards and paint the holes (alternating colors to help with counting spaces around the board) and paint a design in the middle depending on what my customers want. Also usually to facilitate more room for a design on one side I place the holes for the 4 player game on one side and the 2 player games on the other. More room for creativity. Additional accessories needed to play: Marbles, Playing cards (I use 5 decks for the 4 player to avoid shuffling to often), and rules. Any question please feel free to ask, Seth
