A 3' x 3' sacrificial work surface with MFT style holes. This is a great surface for Origin because there are many available MFT (dog hole) clamp options for securing your workpiece and you don't have to feel bad about cutting into the surface. The size is big enough for most projects and the fact that it is square means you can rotate and flip it many times as you cut into the sacrificial before you need to replace it.

Materials

3' x 3' board of your choice, preferably 3/4" thick

Tools

1/4" or larger bit

Instructions

To save time have your local home improvement store pre-cut your wood to 36" x 36". You want something stiff and flat. I made mine using 3/4" OSB but due to bad surface flatness on one side I am only able to use one side of the board so it would have been cheaper for me in the long run to spend a little more on a board I can not only rotate but also flip over as it gets used. When taping the board lay out your tape so that no dominos are destroyed by cutting the dog holes. A little planning here goes a long way. The first row of dog holes will be approximately 1" from the edge of the board and additional rows will be spaced approximately every 3 3/4". One row of ShaperTape between each row of holes should be sufficient. Everything can be cut using a standard 1/4" up-cut bit, but I recommend buying a larger bit so that you can take advantage of the helical cut function. The holes are 20mm in diameter so pretty much anything larger than 1/4" will work. The larger your bit the less accurate you will have to position Origin over the hole to activate the helical cut feature. Just make sure your bit is capable of plunge cutting, especially if you use a .500" or larger bit.
