Shaper Station

I wanted a 'station' for using my Shaper, storing bits, the Systainer, clamps, etc. So I came up with a design that is about 2' x 4' made from Baltic Birch Plywood and a lightweight MDF top. This cabinet is great for most of my uses with a Shaper - the top enables clamping, the shelves get clamps and other items out of the way, and the drawers provide storage and easy access. The photo shows a Vertical Workstation option from the Shaper team and how it fits the station with two dogs.

Instructions

The Sketchup plans are attached. It will give you both the design as well as a layout on 19mm and 9mm sheets for the station. Most of the panels I cut with a tracksaw, but the two ends I cut with the Shaper as well as the details for the caster recesses. You can use the Shaper for the 32mm adjustment holes for drawers and the back shelves, or just drill them with a hole guide. Assembly and Materials: - Plywood was dominoed and glued with 1/8" dado’s in the top and bottom. You don't have to do both as dados and screws would also give you plenty of strength. Or dominos alone. - Top is 24 x 48, offset to the back side. - Bench is 35.5" high which is a comfortable height for me. - Used almost 2 pieces of 5x5’ Baltic Birch B/BB for the bench and vertical workstation - Casters are two-way lockable which makes for a sturdy bench. - I set the drawer grid of holes at 16mm rather than 32mm. This gives me closer adjustment so I can potentially fit Systainers in with a smaller spacing between them. - Top is .72 lightweight MDF set into a plywood frame. Ply is also .72 - The T-track on the vertical jig and the front edge will work with Festool/Bessey clamps or the hex bolt and knob-based Incra hold downs. - T-track and casters came from Amazon. - Full extension drawer glides from Amazon. - Festool Sys-AZ drawers. - Inset circular center pull-out drawer pull (40mm) from Amazon - The front center section is a pull-out on full-extension glides for storing clamps and clamp blocks. Plywood scraps are screwed from the left side of the upright to make holders. Works great for a simple way to store and have ready access to them. I made a bit tray for the one unused drawer on the right above the Shaper for tools, tape, bits, micrometer, etc. Plans are included in the downloads. You can use the Fabber plugin for Sketchup or FaceSVG plugin to select a face and export it.
