This pizza peel was a gift for a friend of the UNC Orthodontics Department. The head is roughly 18"L x 14.5"W x 0.4"T, and is made from of what we think is poplar. The walnut handle is inset into the head with a half-thickness lap joint, and is an additional 12" long. The poplar had some interesting peculiarities, so I set two butterflies to prevent it from splitting along the grain lines. "UNC ORTHO" is inlaid using some scrap oak.

Materials

1) Poplar, or other wood for body - need at least 18" x 14.5", at thickness of finished peel.

2) Walnut - 24.5" x 3.5", at thickness of peel.

3) Some extra walnut for butterflies, as desired.

4) Thin material to inlay text - I used 1/16" thick white oak.
