A small / light fixture for working on end in the field. its sometimes impractical to work on end grain at a bench, i find myself clamping my stock to the deck especially for longer pieces. This fixture comes in handy for exactly this situation.

Instructions

This is a work in progress fixture, so please chime in if you have any suggestions you would like to see in the next iteration. discussion thread here: Mirror the support file so you cut a left and a right version dado is cut to 1/4" deep, test fit to confirm your stock fits in the dado before cutting the part out and removing tape. you can accomodate thicker stock with offsets if needed. sand and glue up, taking care to confirm edges are 90 degrees to the top and the front face is 90 degrees to the top. either clamp or brad nail while the glue sets. give everything a light sand, make sure there are no glue lumps between the front face and and the indexing side tabs ( that will prevent things aligning accurately. hit the whole thing with shellac to seat it, add shapertape to the top, and cover in a protective film if you want it to be super durable. screw clamps ( eg: Festool 489570 Screw Clamps ) fit through the holes in the side and allow you to get to work quickly.
