Tools

Origin

vertical workstation

1/8" cutter

Instructions

With your wood milled to 3.25" wide, 0.8" and the length of your choosing. Place the dark / blood end grain wood in the vertical workstation with the box interior facing out. be sure is carefully aligned flush with the top of the workstation and is confirmed to be vertical. Creating an 1/8" grid by probing the front twice and left edge once will enable you to align the "dark_end" file, so the blue rectangle will aligns with your stock. Cut the profile down to 0.4" deep. For the light wood: Double sided tape the stock to a spoil board, interior facing up. Secure a panel the same height (0.8") on either side that wont move during cutting. and leave a notch on the left Side for probing. ( see image ) Create a 1/8" grid and align the "light_flat" file to the stock ( keep in mind it will be offset by 1/8" as the file overshoots the stock ) Cut the rectangle first down to 0.4" ( you may want to use a 1/4" cutter to speed this up. remember to touch off when swapping cutters ) Then cut the blood profile the full depth with the 1/8" cutter. When preparing to make a box the light wood will be 0.8" shorter than the final box dimension, and the dark / blood wood will be the actual dimension of the stock. enjoy.
